Uncountable groups have many nonconjugate subgroups
We prove that any uncountable group G of power ~, has at least 2 subgroups not conjugate in pairs. The paper is very self-contained, assuming no knowledge except cardinal arithmetic (and the definition of an (abelian) group).
متن کاملInert subgroups of uncountable locally finite groups
Let G be an uncountable universal locally finite group. We study subgroups H < G such that for every g ∈ G, |H : H ∩H| < |H|.
متن کاملFinite p-groups Which Have Many Normal Subgroups
In this paper we classify finite groups whose nonnormal subgroups are of order p or pq, where p, q are primes. As a by-product, we also classify the finite groups in which all nonnormal subgroups are cyclic.
متن کاملGroups with countably many subgroups
We describe soluble groups in which the set of all subgroups is countable and show that locally (soluble-byfinite) groups with this property are soluble-by-finite. Further, we construct a nilpotent group with uncountably many subgroups in which the set of all abelian subgroups is countable.
متن کاملinfinite groups with many generalized normal subgroups
a subgroup $x$ of a group $g$ is almost normal if the index $|g:n_g(x)|$ is finite, while $x$ is nearly normal if it has finite index in the normal closure $x^g$. this paper investigates the structure of groups in which every (infinite) subgroup is either almost normal or nearly normal.
